More than GH¢30 million has been disbursed by government through the Tourism Development Fund to promote cultural festivals and strengthen Ghana’s creative economy.
The disclosure was made at the 61st Oguaaman Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast, where Policy Advisor at the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, announced the package on behalf of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
According to Dr. Ampofo, the investment is intended to reposition cultural festivals as platforms for economic growth and sustainable livelihoods for creatives, while raising Ghana’s global profile.
He noted that the Creative Arts Agency, working with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, is driving the initiative.
He praised the festival’s theme, “Innovate to Elevate,” as in line with government’s broader reset agenda.
“Through the Creative Arts Agency, working with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the government is investing in unprecedented opportunities for our Creatives to flourish, allowing them to earn sustainable livelihoods while flying high the proud flag of Ghana across the globe.
“Our tourism sector, strengthened by strategic investments through the Ghana Tourism Development Company and the Tourism Development Fund, which has already disbursed over 30 million Ghana cedis, is ensuring that festivals such as the Fetu Afahye remain both cultural sanctuaries and engines of economic growth.”
The delegation, which included Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto and MP for Cape Coast South, George Ricketts-Hagan, made donations of food items, beverages, and cash to support the celebrations.
Beyond tourism, Dr. Ampofo assured the people of accelerated works on the Accra–Cape Coast road, describing the route as a “nightmare” that government is determined to fix.
Central Regional Minister Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere also revealed plans for a free zone in the Region to attract investment and spread growth beyond Accra.
