A male teacher at Modern Preparatory School, a privately-owned institution in Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region, has been granted bail by the Odumase Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges of sextortion.
The accused, Smart Kumi, 27, appeared before the court on charges of sex extortion (sextortion), contrary to Section 66 (1) of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038).
The victim [Name withheld ] a newly posted teacher at the same school, became friends with Kumi after he expressed romantic interest in her — advances she declined.
Despite this, the two maintained a cordial friendship.
However, during the course of their interactions, Kumi gained access to the victim’s phone and, without her knowledge, transferred her private nude images onto his device.
He later used these images to demand sexual favors, threatening to publish them if she refused to comply.
Frightened by his threats, the victim pleaded with Kumi to desist, but he ignored her appeals.

The case was later adjourned to May 13, 2025, and then to May 19, 2025 for final sentencing.
However,in a sudden turn of event, the court granted bail to Kumi on Monday, May 19, 2025, when he reappeared for sentencing.
