Anthony Julius, a Government Communications official, has voiced support for government efforts to rationalize and reclaim public lands, saying it is the only way to protect properties meant for national development.
Speaking on GH Today with Lily Mohammed on GHOne TV on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Julius stressed the need for a standardized pricing system for public lands.
“Lands in prime areas such as Cantonments should have clear market values, and anyone interested in acquiring them must pay at least 70 per cent of the market value, with the remaining balance structured appropriately,” he said. “That arrangement is the only way we can save public lands from going to private hands.”
He criticized what he described as entitlement among some politicians, noting that public lands have in the past been sold cheaply to politically exposed persons.
Julius also backed calls by John Dramani Mahama to halt transactions involving public lands, saying the move was necessary to prevent further abuse.
“We must tighten the definition of ‘public purpose’ and ‘public use’ to prevent broad interpretations that allow individuals to justify taking state lands for private benefit,” he added. “We must collectively agree that what has been happening over the years has been injustice and that injustice must end.”
He concluded by urging the government to sustain current measures and ensure justice for families who sacrificed their lands for national development.
