The National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) has received a state-of-the-art heater-cooler unit valued at €75,000 from Quantum LC and WBHO Ltd to support open-heart surgeries at the Centre.
The latest-generation Liva-Nova 3T heater-cooler unit is intended to upgrade the Centre’s cardiopulmonary bypass system and enhance patient care during critical cardiovascular procedures.
Speaking on the motivation behind the donation, Chief Executive of Quantum LC, Dr Joseph Titus Glover, said the gesture formed part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting vital medical services at the National Cardiothoracic Centre.
“Whenever our good friend needs something, we try and support. We just donated a heater-cooler equipment used to support heart surgeries, and we are happy we show this kind of gesture to the National Cardiothoracic Centre,” he said.
Receiving the equipment, Director of the Cardio Centre, Dr Kow Entsua-Mensah, expressed appreciation to Quantum LC and WBHO Ltd for what he described as a timely intervention.
He said the donation also reflected the long-standing relationship between the institutions, tracing the partnership to a friendship forged during their days at Achimota School.
“For my part, I want to say a sincere thank you to Quantum LC/WBHO Ltd. This gesture is an extension of the friendship forged during our days at Achimota School, which has blossomed today to the benefit of the many patients who need heart surgery,” Dr Entsua-Mensah said.
The newly acquired equipment replaces an older-generation unit previously used at the Centre and is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency during cardiovascular procedures.
Dr Entsua-Mensah reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Quantum LC and WBHO, saying the institutions would explore new areas of collaboration.
The donation follows a recent medical outreach conducted by staff of the Cardio Centre at the mining operations of Quantum LC/WBHO.
During the outreach, cardiac-related services were provided to workers as well as residents within the catchment area of the companies’ mining operations.
Dr Entsua-Mensah said the partnership would continue to focus on improving healthcare outcomes for Ghanaians.
“In the coming years, we as partners want to re-double our collaborative efforts to the greater benefit of Ghanaian heart patients,” he concluded.
