Members of the Rotary clubs of Accra Industrial and Accra–Premier International with guests and partners, on Saturday 30th July 2022 visited the Shelter for Abused Children to make donations of various items to the shelter.

The shelter which is under the Department of the Social Welfare of Ghana had made an appeal to the Rotary clubs for support. The unit is one of the four sections of the Department of Social welfare which also has a correctional center, a remand home for boys and girls, and a vocational studies unit.

The joint donation by the rotary clubs is an initiative of the Service project committees and also in response to the call made by the Shelter home of which donations of various items like stationery, clothes, toys, detergents, sanitizers, mosquito nets, foodstuff, first aid, and other medications were made. These donations were made by members from both clubs and donor partners and institutions under the leadership of Rotarian Nana Konadu and Mr. Arun Patil the Service of Chair of Accra-Industrial and Accra-Premier international respectively.

The Charter President of the Rotary Club of Accra Premier CP Kumar expressed his pride in how Rotary helps guide its clubs to identify whom to help and assess their needs. And also organizing the clubs to channel support to bring prosperity and joy to all.

The President of the Rotary Club of Accra Industrial Dean S. Senchim highlighted that members of both clubs with this gesture as demanded by Rotary had come to spread goodwill and to put smiles on the faces of the children of the shelter.

Past Assistant Governor of District 9102 PAG Shika, commended both clubs for this initiative of supporting and reaching out to the shelter. She entreated all to imagine a world where these underprivileged and abused children can be re-integrated back into society and have a better way of living. As this was just a beginning in this partnership, she alluded that the future is bright and with more support, we can imagine more assistance for the Children’s shelter.

The Unit head of the shelter for abused Children Auntie Mary, on behalf of the shelter’s management Madam Gifty Terkpor, staff, and children, expressed their profound gratitude to the rotary clubs for coming to their aid. She intimated that the donations they have received were enough to sustain the activities of the shelter for months to come. Furthermore, she extended well wishes to partner donors and institutions that were also part of this exercise.

Immediate Past President and Charter President of Rotary Club of Accra–Industrial IPP Santosh and CP Francis also thanked and appreciated members and donor institutions and encouraged the need for more such activities to support the welfare systems in the country.
