The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced the cancellation of the Ghana.gov platform, a flagship digital service portal introduced under the Akufo-Addo administration.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Friday, August 1, Mr. George revealed that the platform operated without a formal contract, yet received tens of millions of Ghana cedis in monthly payments—an arrangement he described as unacceptable.
According to him, the Mahama-led government has discontinued all payments associated with the project and is taking steps to develop a new, legally compliant platform.
“The Ghana.gov platform has run under the previous Akufo-Addo administration without a contract. Ten of millions of Ghana cedis were paid every month to companies without a contract, we have put an end and stop to that,” he said.
“Since President Mahama came not even a pesewa has been paid on that because we cannot for a project that has no contract.”
Mr. George added that the Ministry has redesigned the initiative and is preparing to launch a new digital platform within the fourth quarter of the year.
“Working closely with the Ministry of Finance, we are currently at the Public Procurement Authority seeking clearance to proceed with a public tender to ensure that the best value of money is achieved for the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
