Retired Military Officer and Security Consultant, Col. Festus Aboagye, has strongly rejected proposals by Members of Parliament Sam George and Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor to review the age limit for enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces, insisting the policy must remain unchanged.
His comments follow a post on X by Communications Minister, Sam George, supporting a review of the current age restrictions, alongside a similar post by the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor.
Speaking to Tutuwaa Danso on Starr Today, Col. Aboagye (Rtd.) disagreed, stressing that the current system works effectively and that there is no shortage of recruits to justify such a change.
“There is no evidence to suggest that the Armed Forces are facing challenges in recruiting or enlisting officers. So, where is this idea coming from? The politicization of recruitment within major political parties through protocol appointments poses a serious risk to our democracy, and it must not be condoned.

We must ensure that everyone who wishes to join the Armed Forces – or any security service for that matter – is recruited strictly according to established procedures. This recent phenomenon, where political influence dominates state institutions, is dangerous.
The sooner we come to our senses and resolve these issues, the better it will be for the stability of our democracy. No democratic system can function properly when a select few hold so much power that nothing happens without their involvement.”
