The Sekondi-Takoradi Municipality of the Western Region has been identified as the new Covid-19 hotspot in the country, the Ghana Health Service has indicated.
According to the Director-General of the Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the municipality has recorded 57 new cases, which is relatively high as compared to other areas.
He, however, noted that a team has been deployed to the area to assist in controlling the spread of the virus as it did in Tarkwa.
Meanwhile, the Savannah Region has recorded its first case.
The case, the GHS disclosed is a 31-year-old who works in Salaga but lives in Tamale.
The Ghana Health Service has also received ten new ventilators from Peewood Ltd and the Tema Bonded Terminal to support the fight against Covid-19
These ventilators will augment the already 200 ventilators existing in the country.
Government is also expected to receive 50 more that it has ordered.
Receiving the ventilators on behalf of the government, Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo appreciated the donors for their gesture.
According to him, the donation will greatly boost the government’s fight against the highly infectious disease.
The ventilators will be distributed to specific health facilities across the country.
They are believed to be of the same quality as the one’s government has ordered from abroad.
