Ghana international and Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo expressed relief and gratitude after his side’s dramatic penalty shootout win over Wolves in the FA Cup fifth round.
Semenyo played a pivotal role in Bournemouth’s FA Cup victory over Wolves, helping secure a quarter-final spot after a penalty shootout.
The Ghanaian forward, named Man of the Match for the second consecutive FA Cup game, was instrumental in Bournemouth’s opening goal, pressuring Wolves’ goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, which led to Evanilson’s rebound finish.
Speaking to BBC, the prolific striker disclosed that “It was end-to-end stuff. I feel like everyone’s legs started to go after 90 minutes. It went to penalties, and luckily we won – I’m grateful,” he said.
Semenyo’s pace, strength, and pressing caused constant problems for Wolves, and his work rate continued to drive Bournemouth forward in extra time.
Luis Sinisterra sealed the win in the shootout, with Semenyo’s performance highlighting his growing importance to the team.
Despite believing they could have won in regular time, Semenyo acknowledged the exhausting nature of the match, which ended 1-1 before going to penalties. He emphasized the need for more clinical finishing to improve Bournemouth’s performances and expressed excitement about advancing to the quarter-finals.
The match was intense, with 11 cards handed out, including a late red card for Wolves’ Matheus Cunha.
Bournemouth took the lead with a goal from Evanilson, but Wolves equalized through Cunha’s long-range strike.
Semenyo played a crucial role throughout, winning aerial duels and contributing both offensively and defensively.
Although Semenyo was substituted before the penalty shootout, his earlier efforts were vital in Bournemouth’s historic qualification for the FA Cup quarter-finals, marking just their third time reaching this stage.
The team now looks forward to their quarter-final draw and hopes to reach their first-ever semi-final. The Black Stars forward is arguably having the best season of his career so far and looks very promising as Ghana gears up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
