The Chairman of the Board of Governors of Accra Academy, Wilson Tei is recommending insurance policy for Senior High Schools and other government institutions across the country against any unforeseen disaster.
His call comes days after fire gutted two halls of residence at the Accra Academy campus.
In another incident, fire gutted a dormitory at the Islamic Girl High School in Wa Friday morning.
He said the damages and loss of properties caused by the Wednesday night fire could have been paid for by insurance if the school had been covered.
He added that the concept and usefulness of insurance policy must be not be lost on Ghanaians and government, so that when disaster occurs, having an insurance cover reduces the burden on these institutions.
“As it stands now government that did not have money for insurance for the schools, for that matter Accra Academy, has to find more money bigger money to fix the damages that have been caused,” he added.
Mr Tei indicated that insurance policies can be secured from other countries in order to lessen the effect of the damage on a single economy.
“This loss would have been paid not only by Ghanaians but by other economies and that is how insurance operates. You don’t limit the risk to one single economy,” he ended.
