President John Dramani Mahama declared that Ghana is entering a period of renewed optimism and national renewal, during his 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament.
Describing the moment as “psychedefining,” Mahama said the country is overcoming past setbacks and building resilience.
“My journey in public service like that of our nation has not followed a straight path. It has been marked by periods of steady progress and then by setbacks and by determined recovery. Mr. Speaker, that pattern of resilience mirrors the national experience of our nation and today I stand before you to speak to another psychedefining moment, a moment in which our nation is on the rebound of national renewal and of restored hope,” he stated.
The president highlighted the government’s twin agenda of domestic reform and continental engagement. Central to this vision is the Resetting Ghana Agenda, which aims to stabilize the economy, restore public trust, and strengthen institutions.
“The Resetting Ghana Agenda is our national commitment to restore economic stability, rebuild public trust in our democracy, strengthen our institutions and deliver tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians,” Mahama said.
Complementing this is the Accra Reset, a continental strategy designed to position Ghana as a leader in Africa’s progress.
“It recognises that Ghana’s prosperity cannot be separated from Africa’s progress. It calls for a fundamental shift in how African nations relate to one another and to the world, from dependence to self-reliance, from fragmentation to integration and from reactive postures to strategic leadership,” the president added.
Mahama painted a picture of a nation on the rise, grounded in stability, accountability, and a commitment to long-term growth, signaling that Ghana is charting a new course toward hope and opportunity.
