The leadership of the Medical Laboratory Professional Worker’s Union is appealing to the media to serve as a mediator in the ongoing negotiations with the government.
The Union on Friday directed its members to resume work on Monday, June 24 as they announced a suspension of industrial action.
The Union has been negotiating with the government for the past two years but without success. This forced members to go on strike on Monday, 17 June 2024 to put pressure on the government to conclude negotiations.
Following a directive by the National Labor Commission (NLC), the Union has resolved to suspend the industrial action.
Speaking to Starr News, the Spokesperson of the Medical Laboratory Professional Worker’s Union Solomon Quarshie indicated that they trust the Labor Commission to do a good job on the matter.
“We have confidence in the National Labor Commission and that is why we are giving the chance to suspend the action. We have our reservations about the employer especially how they are taking the process.
“However, we will want to give the chance to the Commission and we are serving notice that when we go to this negotiation they treat us with disdain we will also respond appropriately. Just to say that we take the interest of Ghana and our clients at hearts and that is why we are suspending the action”, Mr. Quarshie stated.
He continued: “We will want the media to be part of the process, we want you to go to the duty-bearers to follow the process and also be with us. So that we end this issue. Our members will prepare to go to work on Monday, and Tuesday we will be available at our service point. Between Monday and Wednesday, we expect the Fair Wages and Salary Commission to call a meeting and on Thursday we will go to the Labor Commission. We expect you to be at the Labor Commission to see the outcome.”
