Sustain Lives International to support Agbogloshie scrapyard

Sustain Lives International (SLI), a non-profit organization passionate about environmental, societal and economic problems challenging the 21st century is set to assist individuals in the Agbogbloshie scrapyard community from December 9 to 15, 2017, by providing them with solutions for their daily lives.

As part of SLI’s support for the community, individuals working in the Agbogbloshie scrapyard will receive personal protective equipment like gloves, safety boots, and protective eye-goggles. In addition, they will organize a free health screening exercise for women and children in the community as well as offer free registration for National Health Insurance cards for 150 individuals in the community.

According to the Germany-based founder, Elvis Owusu Acheampong, their intervention comes at a crucial time when the organization has observed that several individuals work under hazardous conditions and have less predisposition towards regular health checks.

“We have taken up the mandate to act against these problems facing societies to promote a better tomorrow for the sake of posterity and believe this exercise will serve a useful purpose to the people of the Agbogbloshie community as well as its environs,” said Mr. Acheampong.

The exercise is expected to be replicated in other communities across various regions in Ghana, in the coming months across.

SLI aims to create environmental awareness through dialogues as well as various forms of communication outreach initiatives. In addition, it empowers locals with sustainable methods of going about their daily economic activities and organizes campaigns to promote sound environmental management.

By the next decade, SLI hopes to implement pragmatic sustainable measures in deprived and victimized communities in Africa, to improve environmental conditions as well as enhancing economic benefits. Therefore they welcome more sponsorships and partnerships to achieve their aim.

The Agbogbloshie Scrapyard project is jointly sponsored by the state government of Saxony in Germany through the North-South-Bridge Foundation, Geninsa, an NGO in Dresden-Germany, Womchild Foundation, Network of Africans-Freiberg and House of Resources in Dresden.
