SYNLAB Ghana has formally responded to media reports regarding a lawsuit filed against the company over allegedly inaccurate HIV test results that reportedly led to job loss and stigma for a female client.
The reports, which cite a GHC10 million legal claim, allege that the woman tested positive for HIV after a diagnosis by SYNLAB, only to later discover that she was not infected. The woman is said to have lost her job and suffered reputational harm as a result.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 1, SYNLAB Ghana confirmed that a case is currently pending in court but rejected the media narrative surrounding the suit, calling it “inaccurate, misleading, and prejudicial.”
“While we respect the individual’s right to seek legal redress, we strongly reject the narrative being propagated in the media,” the statement read.
The company emphasized its commitment to due process, stating that it is fully cooperating with the court and has engaged legal counsel to defend its position. “We have filed a statement of defence denying all the allegations made against the company,” it added.
Addressing concerns over its testing procedures, SYNLAB stressed that it adheres to rigorous quality control measures under both local and international standards. These include certification from the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) in Ghana and ISO 15189:2022 accreditation through DAkkS (Germany).
“Our laboratory follows robust internal and external quality controls to ensure the highest standards of accuracy, integrity, confidentiality in all diagnostic services, including HIV testing,” the statement said.
SYNLAB Ghana also cautioned the public and media outlets against circulating unverified claims, warning that such actions could mislead the public and potentially interfere with ongoing legal proceedings.
“The publication in question is not only unbalanced but also contains factual inaccuracies that we are addressing through the appropriate legal channels,” the company stated.
Despite the ongoing legal matter, SYNLAB assured its clients, partners, and the general public that the case does not affect the quality or reliability of its services.
“SYNLAB Ghana remains a trusted provider of diagnostic excellence, and this matter in no way affects the quality, accuracy, or reliability of our services,” the statement concluded.
