The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trade Union Congress-Ghana (TUC) has issued a press release announcing the union’s plans to go on a strike due to frustration over the prolonged delay in finalizing and implementing the Conditions of Service Agreement for its members.
These members work in various institutions such as the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), Museums and Monuments Board, Public Technical Universities, and Public Universities.
TEWU highlighted that negotiations for the service of conditions have been ongoing for several years without reaching a resolution.
In the press release, the union expressed its disappointment over government agencies’ failure to finalize the review negotiations, which have dragged on for years.
The statement further highlighted that many members of the union expected a resolution by now, but unfortunately, the past four years have been met with delays and bureaucratic delays.
The union also stated that as a new academic year unfolds, its members particularly those handling the admission processes for first-year students are faced with uncertain service conditions.
As a result, the union has cautioned that the patience of its members is on edge, emphasizing that if the government does not act promptly, the union will commence industrial action on November 18, 2024.
The union further appealed to stakeholders to take immediate action to address the union’s concerns to prevent disruptions in the education sector.
