President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Yaa-Naa Abubakar II of the government’s intention to restore potable water supply to residents of Yendi and its environs in the Northern Region.
The Water Supply System, when completed, will bring relief to residents in the area who have been suffering from water shortages for years.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Yaa-Naa, accompanied by paramount chiefs of Dagbon, President Mahama disclosed that funding has been secured for the execution of the Yendi Water Supply System.
“We have been offered funds from the European Union to execute the Yendi Water Supply System and also the Tamale Water Expansion Project,” – Mr. Mahama told the revered King and his entourage.
The President also disclosed that a similar project will be executed in Damongo, the Savannah regional capital, which has been plagued by decades of water crisis.
“Damongo will also benefit from increase water supply so that Gonjas will stop saying there’s no water to those who come to beg for water,” he added.
Beyond his commitment to addressing water problems, President further outlined planned initiatives and policies to help improve the socioeconomic conditions of the Northern Region.
He also revealed plans to launch a pilot 24-Hour Economy Zone in the area, an ambitious flagship program designed to increase productivity and create job opportunities.
