Presidential candidate of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has accused the Electoral Commission of conspiring with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to manipulate the upcoming December 7 general elections.
He stressed the party possesses evidence that a member of parliament has submitted the names of some 65 card-bearing members of the NPP in the Gomoa East constituency to a top official of the EC to be recruited to supervise the polls.
Speaking at a mini rally in the Sekondi constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Western Region, the former president stated the party is winning the upcoming elections and urged supporters to be extra vigilant during the polls.
“It’s crucial we remain vigilant during the upcoming elections, as manipulation could still occur despite our informed voting decisions”, Mahama advised.
He asserted, “Today, I watched a recorded video from Gomoa East. In the video, the Electoral Commission (EC) was selecting citizens to manage polls during the election. However, an NPP member of Parliament allegedly brought 65 party members to the selection process”.
“Do you think the voting will be fair with 65 NPP party members selected and assigned to the polls? There’s allegedly a collusion between the EC and the NPP to rig the election, and we have evidence from Gomoa East”, he added.
Mahama continued, “There’s an audio recording that will be played, and we expect that the 65 NPP members won’t be assigned to any polls. Instead, the Electoral Commission (EC) should select other individuals to oversee the polls.”
“The same issue occurred in Duaboso, where identified NPP members with NPP cards were to be assigned to be at the polls”, he added.
He concluded, “We (NDC) are committed to transparency, and we won’t tolerate any deceitful tactics from the NPP.”
