The Ministry of Transport has refuted claims by the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah, that it is refusing to release information regarding a contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the disinfection of airports and aviation facilities, stating that it is only following due process.

In a statement released by its Public Relations Unit, the Ministry addressed a recent social media post by Sulemana Braimah, alleging that the Ministry was withholding information requested under the RTI Act, 2019 (Act 989), in relation to a contract said to have cost the state GH¢340,000 per day in 2022.

According to the Ministry, an official RTI request was received from The Fourth Estate on May 28, 2025, seeking access to the said contract between the Ministry and Zoomlion Ghana Limited. The Ministry asserts that it has responded in accordance with the provisions of the RTI Act.

“The Ministry would like to draw the attention of the general public to the fact that it is not denying Fourth Estate access to the information but following due processes,” the statement clarified.

The Ministry emphasized that the RTI Act outlines a specific procedure for accessing public information, and the request from The Fourth Estate is currently at the beginning stages of that process.

It further reassured the public that it does not intend to shield any corporate entity or individual from accountability, stating: “The Ministry is not and would not shield any corporate organization or individual in any wrongdoing and will ensure good governance to the people of Ghana.”

The Ministry encouraged the media and public to utilize the appropriate legal channels when seeking information under the RTI framework.

“The Ministry wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to transparency, probity and accountability and would provide leadership and guidance for the development of the transport sector,” the statement concluded.
