The University of Ghana has warned undergraduate students whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) fell below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year that they are required to withdraw from their programmes.

The university said the directive is in line with Section 9.26 of its Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which governs students’ academic progression.

In a notice issued by the Academic Affairs Directorate, the university explained that students must obtain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 to progress to the next academic level and satisfy any additional School or Departmental requirements.

“The regulation provides that, to progress to the next level, a student must obtain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00 or better and satisfy School/Departmental requirements. There is no probation.”

The Directorate further stated: “Accordingly, students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 upon receipt of all grades for their registered courses at the end of the 2025/2026 Academic Year are not in good academic standing and are required to withdraw from their programmes of study.”

Affected students have been advised to check their CGPAs through the Management Information System (MIS) Web and log in to the STS Portal using their Student ID and PIN.

The notice states, “Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web, log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select ‘Withdrawal Request’ to initiate the process.”

The university also clarified that the withdrawal process may differ for some programmes, with the relevant School or Department responsible for initiating it on behalf of affected students.

“Kindly note that for certain programmes, the relevant School or Department will initiate the withdrawal on behalf of affected students,” the notice added.

For further clarification, students have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.

The Directorate also encouraged students to seek support from the Careers and Counselling Directorate, which is available to provide guidance.
