The UNOWAS Working Group on Women, Youth, Peace & Security – Ghana (WGWYPS-GH) has congratulated DDGP3 Patience Baffoe-Bonnie on her appointment as the DirectorGeneral of the Ghana Prisons Service and DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sarpong on her elevation to Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service.
In a statement, UNOWAS indicated that these historic appointments mark a significant milestone in Ghana’s journey toward gender equality and inclusive leadership.
“As a Working Group committed to advancing the principles of UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 (2000) and 2250 (2015), we celebrate these appointments as a testament to the critical role women and youth play in promoting peace, security, and effective governance. The leadership of these accomplished women in key security institutions aligns with our mandate to advocate for greater representation of women in decision-making roles, particularly in areas traditionally dominated by men.
“DDGP3 Baffoe-Bonnie’s extensive experience in prison administration and legal expertise, combined with DCFO Ntow-Sarpong’s distinguished career in fire safety management, exemplify the transformative impact of women leaders in fostering institutional reforms and strengthening public safety,” the statement indicated.
According to UNOWAS, the appointments send a powerful message about the importance of diversity and inclusion in building resilient institutions that reflect the values of equity and justice.
