A Circuit Court in Lawra has handed a 20-year prison sentence to a 47-year-old father after finding him guilty of sexually abusing his 17-year-old biological daughter and threatening her with death.
Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu was convicted of incest and threat of death following a full trial at the Lawra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, on Friday, July 24, 2026.
The Upper West Regional Police Command, which announced the conviction in a statement on Sunday, July 26, said the case was successfully investigated and prosecuted by the Lawra District Police after a complaint was lodged.
Investigations established that the victim, a Junior High School student, had been subjected to sexual abuse by her father over an extended period.
Police said the convict also threatened to kill his daughter if she told anyone about the abuse.
“The conviction follows investigation and prosecution by the Lawra District Police, upon a complaint, which established that the convict has sexually abused his 17-year biological daughter, JHS student, over an extended period amid threats of death if she ever disclosed his escapades to anyone,” the statement said.
Following his conviction, Ti-Zaaekuu received separate sentences for the two offences.
“The Court sentenced the convict to twenty (20) years imprisonment for incest and ten (10) years imprisonment for threat of death, both sentences to run concurrently In Hard Labour,” the police stated.
With the sentences running concurrently, the convict will serve 20 years in prison.
The court also ordered the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor, while praising the officers who handled the investigation and prosecution of the case.
The Command further urged members of the public to promptly report cases of sexual and domestic abuse to the police for appropriate action.
