The Wa Circuit Court in the Upper West Region has jailed a notorious armed robber of Adinan Mahmoud, alias “Okra,” to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour.
This follows an intensive operations by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, leading to the arrest.
A statement by the police in Wa, explained that the 25-year-old Okra was apprehended on Saturday, May 31, 2025, during a high-risk, intelligence-led operation at his hideout in Sandemuni, a suburb of the Municipality.
He had been a long-standing target on the police’s wanted list for his involvement in numerous violent robberies across the region.
Okra was brought before the Wa Circuit Court on Monday, June 2, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
His Honour Jonathan Avogo sentenced him to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour.
The statement added that Okra’s two accomplices, Abdulai Ibrahim alias “Baba” and Abdulai Kipo, pleaded not guilty and have been remanded.
Baba is in prison custody while Kipo is in police custody, with their trial continuing on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the same court.
The Police noted that Okra’s removal from the streets has brought significant relief to residents, who can now enjoy improved safety in their communities.
