The Volta regional Lands commission is set to review all government vested lands that were leased to private individuals and entities from 2012 till date.
The review has become necessary, following what Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa described as the wanton dissipation of government lands in parts of the region under the erstwhile government.
The minister in June 2017, ordered a halt to an ‘infilling exercise’ by the lands commission, where lands at prime locations in Ho including around the residency were being given to individuals at ridiculous rates.
However, speaking to the issue at a recent media interaction in Ho, Dr. Letsa disclosed that, the newly constituted Regional Lands Commission has set up a committee to review the entire re-allocation exercise under the previous administration.
Adding that, beneficiaries of the exercise would be called to justify their allocation before the committee and those undeserving of the allocation would have their land given back for government use and their monies refunded.
“Fortunately for us, we have a new Regional Lands officer and a lands commission and they have an assignment to form a committee to review every lease that was granted from 2012 till date. Every beneficiary will appear before that committee to justify the allocation. Meanwhile, nobody who acquired those was given permit to develop the land,” he stated.
He further noted the Regional Coordinating Council and the Ho Municipal are working to ensure that, no development is undertaken on those lands until the review process is over.
