A four-unit reproductive and child health facility has been built for the Lente-Wute CHPS compound in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region.

The project which was commissioned for use on Thursday, 30th November, 2023 was funded by a philanthropist, Felix Akonta Akakpo, who is a native of Lente-Wute.

The project was in response to appeals made by managers of the facility and would provide infrastructure support for service delivery in the area of maternal and reproductive health services.

The Lente-Wute CHPS since it started operations in 2017 has grappled with infrastructural issues.

At a short ceremony to commission the newly built unit, Mr. Akonta said, “The construction of the Reproductive and Child Health care units exemplifies our commitment to the well-being of our women and children. These units will serve as a vital healthcare resource, offering essential services such as family planning unit, child vaccinations, and reproductive health education. By investing in the health of our women and children, we invest in the future of our community”,

The new facility has a family planning unit, adolescents and youth friendly corner, vaccination room and a store room including washroom facilities.

A fully functional water supply system has also been added to the project.

This is not the first time Mr. Akakpo has intervened for the community. Footprints of his benevolence are scattered across the community including a maternity block he had earlier built for the CHPS compound.

He has also financed the construction of a 10-seater water closet facility for the community.

Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Health Services, in his remarks, commended Mr. Akonta for his contributions to healthcare delivery and urged that individuals and corporate entities support government by providing the necessary resources needed to achieve the universal health coverage by 2030.
