A former Senior Governance Advisor at the United Nations (UN), Dr Baffour Agyeman-Duah has stated that the accusations of dictatorship leveled against the chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee are unfounded.
The Minority in parliament has accused Joe Osei Owusu of being dictatorial during the vetting proceedings.
Rashid Pelpuo, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central chastised the Appointments Committee chair following a fracas that ensued between him and the MP for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini.
Mr. Owusu stopped the Tamale North MP from asking question Monday during the vetting of Energy minister-designate, Boakye Agyarko and this infuriated Mr. Pelpuo.
The minority, the Wa Central MP told Accra-based Joy FM, took serious exception to Mr. Owusu’s behavior as he was “autocratic” by rudely stopping the Tamale North MP in his remarks.
But speaking Tuesday in an interview with Nii Arday Clegg on Morning Starr, Dr Agyeman-Duah said there was nothing wrong with the chair’s conduct.
“If Osei Owusu used his discretion to stop a certain conversation or certain discussions you cannot fault him,” he said.
“If he is autocratic in your view, sure! I think all past chairmen have been that…that’s why I went back to say that the best thing at this point, especially since there is expression of unhappiness about some of the actions of the chairman is to seek to reform the process,” he added.
