The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga has stated that the number one priority in his new position is to tackle concerns of the youth in National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr. Ayariga said it fell within his discretion to determine which Ghanaians were going to benefit from the Youth Authority.
“My first preference is the NDC youth,” he said categorically on State of Affairs with Lantam Papanko on GHOne TV “That I’m not going to lie.”
He argued that NDC youth were also Ghanaians who deserved to benefit from opportunities provided by his outfit.
Asked if his statement was good posturing, he said it was appropriate, noting that it was nationalistic.
“NDC members are also Ghanaians,” he said during a feisty exchange on the prime time show.
Mr. Ayariga argued that he was in no way going to be starkly opposed to proposals brought before him by Ghanaians who belonged to opposition parties. However, he insisted that the top priority with regards to opportunities was young people in the governing party.
The National Youth Authority which was established during the Acheampong era, is mandated to provide relevant and conducive environment that defines and supports the implementation of effective frontline youth empowerment practices, focusing on young people’s participation in socio-economic and political development.
