The confirmation of the president’s nominees for Chief Executives of the various assemblies in the Upper West has started on a perfect note as two assemblies, Wa Municipal and Daffiama-Bussie-Issa district have given the nominees 100% endorsement.

The confirmation exercise which took place in Wa and Issa respectively attracted sympathisers of the ruling NPP as well as the opposition NDC who were full of excitement at the outcome of the exercise.

At the Wa Municipal Assembly conference hall where the confirmation of the nominee Issahaku Tahiru Moomen took place, the 44-member house who are mostly active politically ignored their political difference and all voted to confirm the nominee.

Speaking after the confirmation, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central Alhaji Rashid Pelpuo who was given a run for his money by the nominee in the just ended 2016 parliamentary elections pledged his unalloyed support to ensure the development of the municipality.

According to him, “the overwhelming endorsement from members of the house shows our commitment to work with you (the nominee) to ensure the much needed development for our people is achieved”.

“I will be there to support you in whatever form to push our municipality forward”, he added.

The newly confirmed MCE Issahaku Tahiru Moomen after his swearing in by the supervising high court judge Kwesi Boateng said, he will seek the cooperation of all and sundry to ensure that the headaches of the area is cured.

He said, “I am prepared to work with you and everyone in the municipality to tackle the problems that confront us. Problems such as poor performance of our children at the basic school level, poor road network, security issues among others will be my topmost priority as MCE”.

The new MCE is 39 years old and a chartered accountant.

At Issa, the 21-member assembly which had 19 members present and voting also overwhelmingly gave the nominee Nadi Sanda Imoro a 100% endorsement.

Mr. Sanday who was sworn in by the Upper West Regional Minister Suleiman Alhassan also pledged his desire to work with each member of the assembly to push the development of the area forward.

The confirmation of the two nominees means the region has nine more nominees left to be confirmed. However information Starr News is picking from the Nadowli-Kaleo district indicates that some assembly members have vowed to ensure that the president’s nominee Katherine Lankono is not confirmed on the scheduled date which is 9th May, 2017.
