We’re being thrown out of our house like squatters – Wife of late Dr. Prempeh appeals to IGP, Akufo-Addo

The wife of the late Dr. Abeyie Boakye Atonsah Prempeh, a renowned lecturer at the Ghana Medical School, is appealing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the President to save them from the hands of one Theophilus Teiko Tagoe, who is destroying their houses.

The said Theophilus Teiko Tagoe is laying claims to a parcel of land on which they had their house built.

According to the information, Theophilus Teiko Tagoe stormed the area with armed men in police uniforms and bulldozers to raise down their properties a few weeks after her husband’s demise.

With tears in her eyes, while speaking to GHOne TV, Mrs. Faustina Prempeh narrated the traumatic turns she had to endure dealing with the situation while mourning her late husband.

Her passionate appeal to the IGP and the President was to ensure that the law takes its course and that Theophilus Teiko Tagoe and the men in police uniform are dealt with.

The said Tagoe is said to be laying claims of ownership of some acres of land at Adjiringanor at East Legon, with the Nungua stool disassociating itself from those “unlawful” activities.

Narrating her traumatic ordeal in an interview with GHOne TV after Theophilus Tagoe claimed he had secured a court order to take possession of the said property, Mrs. Prempeh appealed to the State to apply the law.

“I’m appealing to the Inspector General of Police and the President to come to our aid. I’m a widow, and whatever Theophilus Teiko Tagoe is doing should be stopped. We should have our house in peace.

“We don’t want any problems in this house. My husband bought the land, and he was even putting up a clinic.

“All that I am saying is that they (IGP and President) should let the law take its course, and whatever Theophilus Teiko Tagoe has destroyed, he should come and pay us,” she appealed.

Petitions

Mrs. Prempeh said that although they have petitioned the Property Fraud Office and the IGP, she has not had any feedback from the Police.

It is the case of Mrs. Prempeh that less than two months after her husband’s death, they are being thrown out of their “house like squatters.”

Land guards at Pentecost church

Presiding Elder of the Church of Pentecost at New Jerusalem – Adjiringanor District (Marina Area), Elder Samuel Agyiri, also bemoaned the activities of Theophilus Teiko Tagoe.

“We were able to bring the situation to a calm. However, he (Theophilus Teiko Tagoe) stationed land guards at the church premises who were intimidating our members,” he stated.

“He (Theophilus Teiko Tagoe) intimidated them (church members), and at times, they were asking for money from us just to allow our church members to come.

“And so, it got to the hierarchy of the church,” and “they didn’t sit down. We issued an injunction. We issued a writ of summons to the court. We have started court proceedings.”

“We have been to court about three times. He has never appeared. We were advised by the church to carry out criminal proceedings.

“We have sent it to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Head office, expecting feedback from them. But for the court, I respect the position of the court. The court is still in the process of hearing our case,” and “the criminal proceedings that we are yet to hear, or he is invited on the trespass that he has caused on our land.

He has cut down our trees, intimidated our members, stationed land guards,” Elder Samuel Agyiri said.

Nungua stool reacts

Rev. Dr. Gyasi Ankrah, the Administrator of the Office of the Gborbu Wulomo, said Theophilus Teiko Tagoe is illegally appropriating Nungua lands, and “the Nungua Stool has firmly dissociated itself from Mr. Tagoe’s illegal activities.”

“They remain resolute that they have not authorized any demolition nor granted any land to him. The Stool condemns these actions and states that any claims by Mr. Tagoe are fraudulent.

“The Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse of Nungua, upon becoming aware of the illegal claims meted out by Theophilus Teiko, caused his lawyers to write to the registrar of the High Court, Land Division, categorically denying Theophilus Teiko’s claim to the lands he has unlawfully appropriated.

“A spokesperson for the Nungua Stool stated that the Stool was deeply concerned about the unlawful actions taken by Mr. Tagoe and that it has no connection with his claims, and it will support all legal efforts to hold him accountable.

The Nungua Stool urges the relevant authorities to investigate these unlawful activities thoroughly.

“They seek justice and the prosecution of all individuals involved, including the police officers who were tasked by Mr. Tagoe in the fraudulent appropriation of these lands,” Rev. Dr. Ankrah stated.

“Local residents have also expressed their outrage and frustration over the lack of intervention by the authorities. Many have called for a more robust response to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

The Nungua Stool remains committed to protecting their ancestral lands and ensuring that justice is served.

They call on the public and relevant authorities to support their cause and prevent further illegal activities by Mr. Tagoe and his accomplices,” the Administrator of the Office of the Gborbu Wulomo stated.
