The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi is currently at the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to assist with investigation into the activities of Akonta Mining.
The politician who owns the mining company arrived at the CID Headquarters in the company of his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi.
He is there at the instance of Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, who publicly warned on 3rd October 2025 that he would be arrested if he fails to report at the CID
Lawyer for the embattled politician, Lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed over the weekend that his client will honour the invite.
He was, however, worried over the public drama that has characterised the invitation as, according to him, Chairman Wontumi has always cooperated with the CID.
“The announcement by the Attorney General surprises me. We respect the invitation and will honour it, but the warning that followed was unnecessary. We are not in any way going to disrespect the invitation,” he said.
