President John Dramani Mahama has warned new ministers of state that the government under his leadership will not tolerate any acts of arrogance and disrespect towards the Ghanaian public.
Delivering remarks at the presidency during the swearing-in event of his first batch of ministers confirmed by Parliament, the president said it was important for the appointees to demonstrate humility in the discharge of their duties.
“We must exhibit tolerance for their views and work to meet their aspirations. This government will not tolerate arrogance or disrespect for the people who elected us into office. Modesty and prudence must be the guiding principles upon which you, myself, and our Vice President fashion our governance,” he said on Wednesday.
He reminded the new government officials that the citizens will “demand the highest standards of governance, and we cannot afford to fail them”.
President Mahama told the six Members of Parliament who will now be ministers of state in addition that “the days of tolerance for disrespectful gaslighting by government officials are well and truly over”.
He was clear that their performance in office could not “be business as usual”.
The ministers who were sworn into office are Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister for Finance; Dr. Dominic Ayine, Attorney General and Minister for Justice; John Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition; Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education; Eric Opoku, Minister for Food and Agriculture and Governs Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways.
Another set of vetted ministers-designate is expected to be approved by Parliament even as the president continues to name his new team.
