President John Dramani Mahama has assured nursing trainees across the country that payment of their delayed allowances is being processed and disbursements will begin next month.
Speaking during a durbar of chiefs at Nalerigu as part of his Thank You Tour of the North East Region, the President said the necessary arrangements are being finalized to ensure consistent and timely payment of the allowances.
According to President Mahama, the allowances of the trainees were being finalized and they will be due payment in July.
“I can assure you, your ‘allawa’ is being worked on and by next month, you’ll start receiving payment,” the touring president said to rapturous cheers.
He explained to the gathering that the government had designed the mode of payment such that beneficiaries will receive their allowances “automatically every month” so arrears are avoided.
The president told the nurses that they will be due a backlog of payment given that the 2025 budget had already been drawn and approved by Parliament.
He added the Nalerigu College of Nursing and Midwifery, located in the region, was one of the colleges government had shortlisted to be upgraded to a degree-awarding educational institution.
Throughout his speech, President Mahama was repeatedly cheered by attendees, some of whom were nursing students.
