Your jobs are safe under CRM – Tampuli to LPG Operators

The CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Hassan Tampuli has reassured that the implementation of the controversial Cylinder Re-circulation Module (CRM) will not render players in the industry jobless.

According to the Ghana Liquefied Petroleum Gas Operators Association, a whopping 7000 of its members will lose their livelihood should government go ahead to rollout out the CRM.

Reacting to the claim of the association then, Mr Tampuli explained on May 21 that the CRM was “borne out of a policy that has been rolled out by the Ministry of Energy, the NPA and implementing agency is not aimed at creating job losses to the contrary.”

The NPA’s best analysis, he stated then, indicated that the current jobs that “we have in the system are going to be more than quadruple” –an explanation the LPG Operators Association vowed not to accept, threatening to storm the streets across the country to express its anger.

“We are going to hit the street. Especially in Kumasi, we are going to hit the street, then after a strike action will follow,” the Organising Secretary of the Association Nanaba Osei Tutu told Starr Business on July 30.

The threat was after an Accra High Court dismissed a suit by the Association to place an injunction on the implementation of the policy.

However, speaking Wednesday on Starr Chat, Mr Tampuli called for restraint, assuring that the policy will not render anyone jobless.

“This policy is not about taking them [LPG Operators] out of their daily bread,” Mr Tampuli told Starr Chat host Bola Ray.

“We have said it time without number that this module is not intended to get them out of business.

“As a matter fact, I have said it many times with all the integrity available to me that they are the main fulcrum around which this Cylinder Re-circulation Module is going to be implemented. They shouldn’t be worried,” he asserted.

The implementation of the CRM was ordered by President Akufo-Addo last year in the aftermath of the ghastly gas explosion at Atomic junction, Madina a suburb of Accra.

Instead of LPG outlets filling empty gas cylinders, LPG bottling plants outside commercial centres would rather fill the cylinders for sale at the retail outlets.
