Zamalek have officially announced French manager Patrice Carteron as the club’s new head coach in the early hours of Tuesday.
As reported earlier by KingFut, Carteron succeeds Micho Sredojević as the Whites’ new manager, after the Serbian was sacked following two successive defeats to ENPPI and TP Mazembe.
Carteron also becomes the only third foreign manager in history to coach both Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek after Michael Everitt and Reiner Hollmann.
The 49-year-old had a short stint as Al Ahly manager, as he guided the Reds 21 games across all competitions, winning 12, drawing five, while losing three, leading the club to the CAF Champions League final.
Carteron also took charge of Wadi Degla for less than a year, leading them to a fifth-placed league finish after taking over mid-season in January 2016, just one point away from the top four.
Following his departure from Al Ahly in November 2018, Carteron took charge of Moroccon club Raja Casablanca, lifting the CAF Super Cup with them, before getting sacked last November.
Carteron has also had stints with French sides Cannes and Dijon, the Malian national team, TP Mazembe, Saudi side Al Nassar, and Phoenix Rising of USA.
However, he is most known for his time as TP Mazembe manager after guiding the Congolese side to the 2015 CAF Champions League title.
Zamalek’s official website has announced that Carteron will arrive on Tuesday morning to officially take charge of the team ahead of their Egypt Cup encounter against El-Sharkia.
Carteron will be assisted by Sami El-Sheshini and Amir Abdelaziz, with Greek fitness coach Antonio also being a member of his staff.
He will be Zamalek’s only second French manager in the history of the club after Henri Michel, who guided the club for a brief time in 2007.
