Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has announced that his country will be purchasing more fugu-Ghana’s traditional handwoven smock-following the visit of President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking during a leadership engagement in Lusaka, President Hichilema praised the cultural attire, which Mahama wore during official events, describing it as a source of pride and admiration.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was also seen wearing the fugu, drawing further attention to the garment.
“And I’m very happy that the foreign minister, you’re dressed like that. I asked my team to post on various platforms that were associated with that. The president of Zambia will be ordering more of that stuff for himself,” Hichilema said.
The announcement comes amid widespread recognition of Mahama’s choice to wear the fugu during his official engagements.
While some social media users in Zambia made lighthearted remarks about the attire, calling it a “blouse,” Ghanaians quickly defended the garment, emphasizing its cultural significance and symbolism.
