The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the release of renowned skit maker and prankster, Zion Ubani, popularly known as Zfancy. Zfancy was arrested on July 4 in Abuja by the NPF-National Cybercrime Centre due to prank videos in which he was falsely accused of serious crimes, including rape.
In an update on Wednesday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced that Zfancy had been granted bail with a stern warning “to avoid pranks that could cause public unrest.”
Adejobi further revealed that Zfancy was released into the custody of the executives of the Practitioners of Content Creation, Skit-Making, and Influencers Guild of Nigeria. The delegation, led by Special Assistant to the President on ICT Development and Digital Innovation, Tokoni Igoin, played a crucial role in securing his release.
The controversial videos, which sparked significant public outcry, were ultimately determined to be scripted. ACP Adejobi emphasized the importance of responsible social media use, urging content creators to avoid spreading misinformation that could incite public disorder.
“While encouraging positive creativity among the youthful populace, the NPF urges content creators to responsibly use social media and avoid spreading misinformation that may incite public disorder,” Adejobi stated.
Zfancy’s arrest and subsequent release highlight the growing concerns around the impact of social media content and the need for creators to exercise caution in their creative endeavors.
