The Electoral Commission has begun processes to pay allowances of officials who were engaged for the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.
It follows the release of some GHC70 million by the Finance Ministry to the commission for the exercise.
This brings to GHC870 million the total funds released to the EC out of the requested GHC139 billion.
Some 200,000 poll officers engaged by the Electoral Commission for the elections have been agitating over the delays in payment.
Director of Public Affairs of the election management body, Kofi Dzakpasu, had said the delay in the payment of the allowances, which ranges from GHS800 to GHS1500, was due to the failure of the Ministry of Finance to release funds to the EC.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of Communications of the Commission, Yusif Ayuba, told Starr News they are working hard to ensure the election officials are all paid.
