A primary school in a community in the Brong Ahafo region has been shut down to curtail any danger to pupils, due to the dilapidated nature of the structure.
The Assembly Member for Kukuom Abromamu Electoral Area in the Brong Ahafo region, Kobby Amoah-Mensah closed down the three classroom block of the Methodist Primary School to prevent future accident.
According to him, the school’s classrooms are in a decrepit state leaving the lives of pupils and teachers at risk.
He further asserts that efforts to get assistance from the Asunafo South District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service in the district have yielded no results.
“The buildings are not safe. [They] could collapse on the kids at any time. I have raised this issue over a year ago. I have written several letters to numerous people in notifying them of the situation and nothing has been done,” he told Starr News.
“So I was left with no choice than to safeguard the lives of the kids. The school…primary 1, 2, 3 closed. The honours is on the District Assembly and the Director of Education to actually provide the premises—not me the Assemblyman…but I have to safeguard the lives of the kids first because if the buildings break and kill them everybody will be coming to me asking questions,” he added.
