The disciplinary committee of the Zabzugu Senior High School in the Northern region has recommended the indefinite suspension of the  two second year science students who attacked a female colleague with a gun after accusing her of witchcraft.

The students, Abubakari Abdul Ganiu and Alhassan Zakaria launched a night raid on the female dormitory and threatened another student Alhassan Zalia following claims that she was hunting one of them spiritually and causing frightening dreams.

Abubakari Ganiu is alleged to have consulted his friend Alhassan Zakaria after alleging severally that their colleague  Zalia wanted to bewitch him.

His friend offered him a locally manufactured gun and instigated a confrontation. The two then besieged Zalia’s dormitory at night with the weapon and threatened to kill her.

School authorities reportedly  did not address the matter,  and only reported to the police when panicked parents of the victim stormed the school after receiving information that their ward’s security was under jeopardy.

Police as part of investigation carried out a dawn swoop and retrieved a sword from the students who lived outside the school.

The two students were arrested and taken into custody but the victim was withdrawn permanently from the school by the parents who cited poor security arrangements.

Their arrest nearly triggered student riots but was foiled by  angry teachers. Students intended to demonstrate against management to compel release of their colleagues.

They were shortly freed without a charge sparking wild concerns of administrative indifference and striking fears among students.

However, after an internal probe the school has technically dismissed the two students noted for inciting aggressive and confrontational acts.

In separate ‘dismissal’ letters cited by Starr News,  the committee said Abdul Ganiu’s approach to the issue was “repugnant and dangerous to himself and the school community” and therefore recommended for his suspension indefinitely.

The committee again said Alhassan Zakaria who advised and offered the weapon was also suspended because his behavior was found “to be in conflict with the rules under which students are trained “and very dangerous to himself and another students.

School authorities directed that the suspended students handed over all school properties in their custody as they leave.

The Zabzugu senior high school has alarming growth of student indiscipline which is hugely affected academic performances.

Last year, eight female students were asked to go home after being found guilty of inflicting terrible injuries to junior students by making them knell on stones for hours after having accused them spreading gossip about them.
