The Northern Regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bugri Naabu Friday went berserk scuttling a meeting being held by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Otiko Afisa Djaba.
The chairman accompanied by a group of rowdy women affiliated to the NPP stormed the meeting vandalizing properties in protest to what he described as the Minister’s seeming disrespect to his authority as she did not seek his consent before holding her meeting.
Describing the meeting as “illegal”, Naabu said the Gender Minister has no right to come to the region to organize a meeting without prior notice to the regional executives, observing that even the president would not do that.
“I have told the Minister point blank what she did was wrong. It is unconstitutional and therefore her meeting is illegal,” he declared to the admiration of the women accompanying him.
According to Starr News’ Northern regional correspondent Eliasu Tanko, incensed Mr. Naabu personally took part in the vandalism throwing water bottles and ordering Ms Djaba to immediately stop the “illegal meeting,” which he suspected was aimed at plotting a scheme to undermine President Akufo-Addo’s nominee to head the school feeding programme in the region.
Narrating the incident to Benard Nasara Saibu on Starr Today Friday, Tanko added that the development nearly turned chaotic, but for the timely intervention of the police.
“As we speak we have more than 30 policemen currently at the Modern City premises—[where the meeting was being held]. We also have some few military men very armed and also armored vehicle stationed here currently,” he reported.
“The Gender minister as we speak is also reorganizing to have a press conference. So right now the regional Minister has scuffled the meeting. He has left with the rowdy women and it is left with only the Gender Minister and her team.”
