A train has derailed at Alajo in Accra injuring scores of people. The accident reportedly occurred early Monday morning at a curvy spot called Santana near Tesano
No death has been reported. The police have already been at the scene to maintain law and order as rescue efforts take place.
According to an eyewitness, one of the wooden rails was loose which eventually derailed the last coach of the train which was heading to the Central Business District.
“We realised that the train was shaking. It has about eight coaches. It managed to move until the eighth coach couldn’t withstand the weakness of the wooden rail so it derailed,” the eyewitness said.
“Most of the wooden rails are rotten and very weak. It was only God. I think because of the rains most of the rails are weak. Authorities must quickly check it before disaster sets in,” he said.
