Zongo Chiefs in Ghana have criticized the Minister of Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Borniface Abubarkar Sadique over the construction of Astro Turfs in Zongo communities.
According to them, the project is not a priority to the Zongo leadership considering the pressing challenges confronting Zongo communities in Ghana.
” It is important our priority is considered.I have mentioned all the problems we have, currently stadium, hockey pitch and those things are not priority to us. We have challenges with infrastructure, poor sanitation, we want a circular college with Arabic subject not only Islamic schools,” a representative of the chiefs said.
They said this during the 5th Annual Conference of National Association of Zango Chiefs (NAZAC) held in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital,on Saturday.
Responding to the concerns, the Zongo minister said the concept of the Astro Turf project is being misunderstood.
“It is a multipurpose integrative project. Come to Madina now, the fields are going to be constructed. Based on the football park, within that perimeter, the drains are going to be constructed, the roads are going to be tarred and so with one stone you kill two birds. And the field will be such that football can continue until the next day. And it will be multipurpose”.
