The attention of the National Health Insurance Authority has been drawn to a publication on Starrfmonline in which a National Communications and Operations Director of the Health Insurance Service Providers Association of
Ghana, (HISPAG), Joseph Christian Amoah, has reportedly “warned that some Health facilities that accept the National Health Insurance Card are likely to return to the cash and carry system soon.”
In the said publication, Mr. Amoah reportedly made claim that, “the health facilities are lamenting government’s failure to settle their claims in arrears between 10 and 20 months.”
The National Health Insurance Authority wishes to inform all and sundry that the above claims supposedly made by HISPAG is not only inadequate but also erroneous, and that NHIA does not owe health service providers 10 to 20 months.
The NHIA has paid Health Service Providers from January 2016 to September 2016 (9 months out of 12) relative to the 2016 claims.
With regard to 2017, Health Service Providers have been reimbursed for claims submitted for January to July on the average and continues to make payments.
The Authority again wishes to encourage any Health Service Provider who has any peculiar situation relative to claims payment contrary to our position as stated herein to contact the National Health Insurance Authority for clarification and redress.
