The ‘Concerned Citizens of Sunyani’ has called on the Ghana Health Service not to confirm the acting director of the Sunyani Government Hospital Dr. Kofi Amponsah as the substantive head of the facility.

According to the concerned residents, the attitude and hostile relationship between Dr. Amponsah and his management and staff make it difficult for him to effectively lead the regional hospital.

Dr. Amponsah, according to sources, is set to be interviewed for the job later this month.

In a statement, the group said: “Dr. Amponsah who has been acting as director for some time now has been at loggerheads with key members of his top management and even some junior ranked officials at the facility. It is on record that the regional health director has in the recent past intervene to mediate in matters between him and his management, but failed.

“The Acting director also shows no respect to his junior staff creating an atmosphere of fear and discomfort for staff working under him”.

The statement further stressed: “In a further disturbing development, Dr. Amponsah has employed a lady who he is publicly known to be dating as his personal secretary making it difficult for other senior officials to bring her to order if she falls out of line with disciplinary codes of the facility.

“He also claims he suffered before the position became vacant for him and so will not allow anyone or process to stampede him because he has the backing of the health minister and his family”.
