Medical Laboratory Technicians across the country have resolved to completely withdraw their services on May 29, 2018.
This was announced Tuesday after a demonstration by the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Chapter of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) to register the Association’s displeasure over salary discrepancies and inadequate working tools.
Draped in red, the demonstrators held placards with letterings which read: “Rectify the Salary anomaly now”, “The Health Sector is on a time bomb”, “Enough of the Animal Farm in the health Sector” among other inscriptions.
Addressing the demonstration, the President of GAMLS Dr. Ignatius Awinibuno bemoaned the ill treatment meted to them by management of hospital across the country, paying no attention to their demands.
“We have complained about this matter and they have just simply refused to have a dedicated account where at least 30 percent of laboratory money is used to retool the laboratories,” he stated.
The GAMLS, he said wants their concerns addressed immediately otherwise “next week we are withdrawing all services including blood banking services across the country.”
