The Kumasi traditional council has said it has no outstanding issues with NDC flagbearer hopeful Kojo Bonsu.
In an interview with Ultimate FM’s Justice Bediako Friday, Chairman of the Kumasi traditional council (KTC) Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, Asokore-Mampong Hene, said there was an issue between Mr. Bonsu and the Asantehene when he was Mayor of Kumasi, but it has been resolved.
“And because of that we thought we couldn’t work with him as a Mayor. The government took the job from him. He realized he had done something wrong, so he came to Otumfuo and apologized, and Otumfuor accepted his apology,” he recounted.
He added: “and so we don’t have any problem with him, so there is no issue at the moment. We are chiefs, we don’t play politics, but I’m saying we have no issue with him”.
When asked whether the KTC will bless his campaign, if he requests, he said “if he wants to be the president, and people will vote for him, we don’t have any problem. He can come and say hello to us. We can bless him, because we don’t have any problem whatsoever with him”.
Mr Bonsu has maintained he is in good terms with the Ashanti Monarch who is his cousin.
“Otumfuo is my first cousin, we have a very good relationship, we are brothers as we Asantes call it. I worship the stool, so, the greatest respect goes to Otumfuo and Manhyia. It isn’t true that I have problems with Otumfuo or Manhyia. [Otumfuo] is somebody that I respect and worship, so, it’s not true. Yes, I had problems with some of his sub-chiefs but Otumfuo was not involved in this matter”, he said.
