The Minority in Parliament has threatened to instigate a vote of no confidence in the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensah.
Contributing to a statement by Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Ekow Hayford on the Representative of People’s Amendment Act, (ROPAA), and Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu said the performance of the Jean Mensah led EC has been abysmal.
The Tamale South MP cites the failure of the commission to undertake limited registration exercise, update its data center, where he argued has been compromised among others to back his claims.
“The Electoral Commission and the commissioner must up her game or else we will call for her head…we will express our vote of no confidence in her if she does not up her game.
“Mr. Speaker, my faith in the Electoral Commission is waning because…today the Electoral Commission cannot even conduct district assembly elections.
Ekow Hayford, MP for Mfantseman had earlier called on Parliament to take a keen interest in the implementation of ROPAA by ensuring that the Electoral Commission is up to the task.
He believes that once this is done, no Ghanaian will be left out in choosing a leader for the country in the 2020 General elections.
Reading a statement on the floor of Parliament Wednesday, Hon. Hayford stated that one of the main reasons why the ROPAA has not been implemented by the Electoral Commission since its passage by Parliament in 2006 is lack of funds.
