The Privileges Committee of Parliament has been ordered by the Speaker of Parliament, Mike Oquaye, to present the report on Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, regarding his utterances deemed to have slighted the House and Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu on Wednesday.
The report which has a recommendation for the MP to be either suspended or reprimanded was supposed to be presented today but the committee planned to shelve it.
Chairman for the privileges committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, said his committee is awaiting the outcome of another matter involving Mr. Agyapong that has been referred to it before presenting the two reports.
But Prof. Oquaye ruled that, the committee should present their report on Mr. Agyapong’s first case, which was filed by the Minority Chief Whip and a Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed on Wednesday, 13th February, 2019.
In July last year, Mr. Agyapong reportedly described Parliament as “useless” for having Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu as its Majority leader.
The comments compelled the Minority Chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak, to file a motion that led to Kennedy Agyapong been referred to the Privileges Committee.
Starr News’ Parliamentary correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan reports that 10 members of the committee have voted for Mr. Agyapong to be suspended while another 10 have also voted for him to be reprimanded. One person, however, abstained from voting.
