The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has resolved to expose kingpins behind galamsey operations in the Ashanti region as it admits the menace is creeping back into the region.
Security services on Monday, retrieved the bodies of three people who were trapped to death under a galamsey pit in the Amansie Central District with two others hospitalized at the Manso government hospital.
Ashanti regional director of NADMO Kwabena Nsenkyire indicates the menace is getting out of control as his outfit continues to receive reports of people on mining expeditions losing their lives in these crudely dug pits.
He narrated they were five people and unfortunately three were dead when NADMO, fire and police personnel tried to pull them out.
Mr Nsenkire was worried that “this has been happening several times. We make the reports to the appropriate quarters but a lot of people keep losing their lives.”
He told Julius Caesar Anadem on the Ultimate Breakfast Show his outfit is stepping up efforts at educating the public against the deleterious consequences of the actions of galamsey operators.
He indicated, “Even God is having it difficult for us to obey the 10 commandments. People still think that the easiest way to make money is to get under the ground to pick up gold. Probably they have been going there but as the popular saying goes, everyday for thief one day for master.”
Mr Nsenkyire warned that the rainy season and the moisture in the ground posed a veritable risk to any persons who will take to digging trenches for mining purposes.
