The Black Meteors will have to wait till Friday to confirm qualification to the 2020 Olympic Games after losing on penalties to Côte D’Ivoire on Tuesday.
The National U23 side needed a win over their Ivorian counterparts to confirm qualification to the 2020 Olympic Games and the final of the U23 AFCON on Friday.
Captain Yaw Yeboah equalized in the second half after the Ivorians took the lead 15 minutes into the game.
The Ivorians took the lead again in the 85th minute and it took a late strike from Evans Mensah to draw Ghana level once again.
There wasn’t a winner in extra time though both sides put up spirited performances in a match that passes as good publicity for African football.
Ghana missed three kicks as the Ivorians converted four to win 4-2 on penalties and qualify automatically to the Olympic Games and Friday’s grand finale.
Ghana has another chance to earn a ticket to the Olympic Games when they come up against South Africa in the third-place playoff will on Friday 22 November at the Cairo Stadium.
