The minority spokesperson on Communications and MP for Sagnarigu Constituency A.B.A. Fuseini has likened the leadership of the EC by Jean Mensah to a Non-Governmental Organization.
He described the EC boss’ attitude towards the commission as a dictatorship.
The Electoral Commission has said no individual or authority can direct or control it as far as carrying out its constitutional mandate is concerned.
In a statement bearing the signature of the election management body’s Acting Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Sylvia Annor, the EC said it has “noted, with grave concern, comments made by Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu during a press conference held on 7 May 2020 that sought to attack the integrity and mandate of the Electoral Commission as well as the creation of an erroneous impression in the minds of the general public on its attitude as far as the COVID-19 pandemic is concerned.”
Commenting on this matter on Nkawkaw based Agoo FM on Tuesday, the Sagnarigu law maker accused Madam Jean Mensah of knowing little about the Electoral Commission.
According to him, the EC boss was once sacked on two different occasions from Parliament for failing to provide what he describes as Constitutional Instrument.
When asked about their [minority] next line of action should the Electoral Commission go-ahead to compile a new voter register, he said, “when we get to the bridge we will cross”
“We the minority and majority of Ghanaians have raised concerns about the EC’s attempt to compile a new voter ID so whatever means, I mean legitimate, legal and constitutional means to fight the matter, we will. The EC boss is running the body as NGO, and like a dictatorship,” he stated.
In addition, he threatened that people will be sacked from registering should they queue in their numbers to participate in the exercise.
